Trip Overview

Nar Phu Valley Trek takes you to remote and untouched region in Annapurna. Wedged between popular Annapurna and Manaslu region, Nar Phu valley is truly a hidden gem that provides rare opportunity to explore unspoiled valley – great mixture of raw Himalayan nature and ancient Buddhist culture. Trekking to Nar Phu valley is opened for tourist since 2003 and trekkers need to obtain special permit to enter the area. The trail route is peppered with ancient religious sites and villages of Tibetan heritage which symbolizes long established traditions of yak herding, trading and harvesting indigenous herbs for medicine.

Starting at Jagat, the trail scrambles through forested route and scattered hamlets to the remote village of Nar & Phu valleys. The trek passes colorful Tibetan chortens and prayer stone and enter deep into the canyons and gorges to reach the wonderful village of Phu. Nar village lies beyond the Phu village. Nar is larger than Phu village. The Nar Phu valley celebrates different festivals such as Lhosar, Derchi, Yakchha and many local festivals. People are Buddhist and follow their own culture.

The village of Phu has main section with 40 houses settled up the side of a ridge. Barley, potatoes and some vegetables are grown in the short growing seasons; yaks, goats and sheep graze freely in the Kharkas and their wools are used to make cloths and carpets. Tsahi Lhakhang Gompa perched on small hill is major the major attraction of Phu village.

Nar village with 65 households and four gompas is larger community than Phu village. The village is perched majestically on a rocky curve above the green fields. Nar village presents the unique insights of bygone era.
