Roof of the world behind the Himalayas, Tibet is culturally, religiously, ethnically, linguistically and geographically diverse region in the world. There are numerous exotic sites and places to visit in Tibet. Basum Lake Tour takes you to the secluded area of Tibet to explore its turquoise-tined lake and experience the authentic Tibetan life and culture.

Located at an altitude of 3,469m, Basum Lake is one of the largest barrier lake in the north of the Tibet. Its shape is like a new moon inlayed in the high gorge and deep valley. Spread over 37.5 sq km, Basum Lake is so clear that one can see the bottom of the lake. Travelers can encounter many water animals like ducks, sandpipers and white crane lazily swimming on the lake. Because of its immaculate beauty and geographical features, Basum Lake was rated as nation AAAA scenic spot in 2000 and associated with the name of National Forest Park in 2001.

Basum Lake Tour features all the aspects that Tibet has to offer. Be it daunting snow-topped peaks, lakes, lush forest, gushing waterfalls, alpine pastures or fascinating historical and spiritual sites, Basum Lake Tour is the perfect combination of natural and cultural wonders of Tibet. It is one of the sacred lake for Mongolian Lamaism. The Island on the lake is believed to be the hollow one and looks like pearl inlayed on the green lake.

It is possible to conduct the tour throughout the year but the best time to travel to Basum is autumn. Autumn brings clear sky and great weather. The beautiful red maple leaves stand out against the blue sky. For Photographic view, you can climb over the mountain in the back of the resort and take the beautiful picture of Island and lake.

Detail Itinerary of Basum Lake Tour (Fly in Fly out)

Day 01: Flight: Kathmandu to Gangor Airport (Lhasa) and transfer to hotel

Flight from Kathmandu to Gangor Airport and transfer to the hotel located around 95 km from airport that takes approximately 2 hours driving through Yerlung Tsangpo and the Lhasa Kyichu River.

Day 02: Lhasa: Guided sightseeing tour to Potala Palace, Jokhang and Barkor street market

After breakfast, we set for sightseeing of historical and religious landmarks of Lhasa. We make an early morning visit to Potola Palace, the regional and political seat of Lhasa. This site is named after Mount Potalaka, the spiritual abode of Chenresig or Avalokitesvara.

In afternoon, we explore Jokhang, one of oldest temple in Nepal built in 7th century. Walking around quaint Barkor Street offers you the spiritual and religious feelings.

Day 03: Overland Tour: Lhasa – Bayi and explore

After breakfast, we proceed for overland tour to Bayi. Bayi, once simple settlement called Lhabagar, is a thriving town which is surrounded by verdant hills filled with lush and exotic forest.

Located at an elevation of (2,900m), this town exhibits the pleasant climate and great scenery. It is located 406 kilometer east of Lhasa, Bayi town is major hub for farmers and herdsmen.

Day 04: Overland Tour: Bayi – Ling Zhi Chu Pol Park – Basum Lake

After breakfast, we drive from Bayi to Basum Lake via Ling Zhi Chu Pol Park. Located in a deep valley at an altitude of 3,586m, Basum Lake is crescent that displays the great mountain scenery, lush tress like an emerald embedded in a valley. Basum Lake is spiritual site for Red Sect. and every years thousands if tourist flocks here to worship.

Day 05: Overland Tour: Basum – Lhasa and transfer to the hotel

After breakfast, we drive back to Lhasa that is about 400km far from the Lake. En route, we pass Mila Mountain Pass.

Day 06: Lhasa: Sightseeing tour to Sera Monastery, Drepung and Norbu Linka

After breakfast, we proceed to visit Sera Monastery located at the foot of Tatipu hill in the northern suburb of Lhasa city. It is one of three famous monasteries along with the Drepung Monastery and the Garden Monastery. Dedicated to the Gelugpa or Yellow Hat Sect, it was founded by Tsong Khapa.

We also visit Drepung Monastery that is located at the lap of mountain Gambo Utse about 5 km west of the city. It is extended to an area of 299,000 and held 7,700 monks in total and possessed 141 fazendas and 540 pastures in its heyday.

Next, we proceed to visit Norbulingka (Jeweled Park) which was built in 1755 and is the traditional summer residence of the successive Dalai Lamas from the 1780s ti 14th Dalai Lama exile in 1959.
We drive back to the hotel at Lhasa and rest overnight.

Day 07: Flight: Gangor Airport (Lhasa) – Kathmandu

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Gangor for your final departure.
