Tibet Everest Base Camp Tour

After breakfast, we proceed for full day sightseeing of Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkor Street. Potala Palace, this iconic palace was perched atop of the hill built by the foremost king Songtsen Gompa.

Jokhang temple, nestled at the heart of Old Lhasa, it protects Tibet’s most precious religious relic, a golden Shakyamuni Buddha which was gifted by Chines Princess Wen Cheng on the occasion for her wedding to the Tibetan King, Songtsen Gompa. Barhor Market Place displays the religious and social focus of Lhasa.

Today is second day set aside for Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery. Sera Monastery located 5km north of Lhasa, Sera Monastery is one of legendry monastery. It houses 7,700 monks resided here and was virtually extinguished by the Chinese.

Today, we drive from Lhasa to Gyantse. En route, you cross Gampala Pass (4,790m) and get the glimpse of Yamdrok-tso (4,400m). The lake is surrounded by the snowy peaks and Mount Nyenchen Khangsar (7,191m) is seen at far horizon, the highest mountain nearby Lhasa. From Lake, we wind westward and drive towards Gyantse. Gyantse was historically largest city in Tibet after Lhasa and Shigatse.

We explore Pelkor Monastery and Gyantse  Kumbum. The Kumbum consist nine floors and each tier has unique chapels. It is the largest stupa in Tibet.

After breakfast, we drive towards Shigatse where we stop for some time and visit Tashi Lhunpo monastery. It displays the largest statue of Jampa (future Buddha) in the world. Tashi Lhunpo monastery is the seat of second higest incarnation, the Panchen Lama. After exploration, we drive towards Sakya and visit famous Sakya Monastery.

Founded in 107, it is the principal monastery of the Sakya sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Sakya monastery comprises two monastery- northern and southern monastery. The northern monastery consists the ruins while Southern monastery consists beautiful fortress surrounded by a moat.

The route to Everest Base Camp is neither too long nor too short, the road is under construction. On the way, we reach Tingri for where we follow a rough road, pass the wide grassland and cross the daunting peaks to reach Everest Base Camp. If weather permits, we get to witness the glimpse of four highest mountains (8,000m+).

In the morning, we get to enjoy the magnificent views of sunrise over Mt. Everest and full scape view of Mt. Everest standing like a snow-capped pyramid in front of Rongpuk, the best viewpoint for watching Mt. Everest. We also explore Rongpuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world (5,000m) that belongs to Nyingma Sect.
After exploration, we drive back to Shigatse.

Today, we drive back to Lhasa via friendship Highway. We drive for 280km that takes us 6 hours of switchback drive. En route, we explore Yarlung Tsangpo River and Bharmaputra River, the longest river in Tibet.
