Helambu Trek

After breakfast, we proceed for sightseeing of city. Our English speaking city guide will accompany you and take you to explore UNESCO designated world heritage sites. Today, we explore quaint Durbar Square, Pashupatinath (Hindu Temple), Swayambhunath (2,000 years old monkey temple) and Boudhanath (largest Buddhist stupa). After sightseeing of UNESCO designated world heritage sites, we drive back to hotel and get our trekking gears checked by our trekking leader and discuss about the trip Alpine Kailash’s office.

Today, we make an hour drive from Thamel to Sundarijal (1350m), the starting point of the trek. We begin our trek from Sundarijal to Chisapani that takes around 5 hours of uphill trek via stone staircase. The trail is quite tough for starting three to four hours of the trek. The first village we walk across is Mulkharka mostly inhabited by Tamang people. We walk through the forested ridge filled with rhododendron and oak trees until Chisapani.

After breakfast, we embark for our journey to Kutumsang. Today’s trail starts with a descent crossing meadows and fields enjoying the view of Ganesh and Langtang range. We drop down to the village of Pati Bhyanjyang and ascent for two hours and then drop down to Gulbhyanjyang. Gulbhyanjyang is small settlement mostly inhabited by Tamang people. We then climb up for one and half hour to reach the top and drop down for fifteen minutes to reach Kutumsang.

Today, we make an ascent on steep trail through the lush forest of rhododendron and fir where there are no permanent settlements. We continue towards Yurin Danda enjoying the magnificent views of Himalaya.

The early part of the trail begins with downhill walk until Melamchigaun. Then, we ascent to Tarkeghyang via Sherpa settlement. You can halt at Melamchigaun for lunch, visit monastery, look around the village and trek again. Tarkeghyang is popularly known as Helambu which houses one of oldest and biggest monastery in the region. The Himalayan view seen for here is awe-inspiring.

Tarkeghyang to Sermathang trail do not gain much altitude so the trail is fairly easy today. We walk through the forested route of rhododendron and oak cluster and pass several streams and waterfalls. Meaking sweep around the wide valley between Sherpa village of Gangyul and Parachin, we reach Seramathang. It is charming Sherpa village that displays Sherpa culture, monasteries and great range of Jugal Himal range. If weather permits, you can see eye-catching view of Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Godainkunda, Rolwaling and even Mt, Everest in a distance.

Seramathang – Malemchi Pul Bazaar and drive to Kathmandu – 3-4 hours trek/2 hour drive

Today, we descend all the way to Melamche pul Bazaar that takes around 4-5 hours of downhill walk. We come across the forest, meadows, cultivated fields and several quaint villages. En route- you can interact with local people while enjoying the spectacular mountain views. From Melamche Pul Bazaar, we drive back to Kathmandu enjoying the great mid hill scenery, cool air and forested road. Upon arrival at hotel, we take a rest day off and do some souvenir shopping in the evening. We attend the fare-well dinner organized by Alpine Kailash to celebrate the successful completion of the trek.
