Trip Overview

Journey to Druk Yul is the best way to experience the lush Bhutanese culture which deeply influenced by Buddhism, the country’s major religion. Journey to Druk Yul is 8 day trip that covers all the historical and cultural attraction of central Bhutan. This trip takes you to explore and experience Paro, Thimpu and Punakha, the major sightseeing spot in Bhutan.

Thimpu beckons you with promises of fascinating cultural sites, natural wonders and good accommodation; you can explore National Library, a treasure trove of priceless Buddhist manuscripts, the traditional institute of medicine, the art and painting school where young monks learn traditional thangkha painting and the textile and folk heritage museum, a great place to learn fascinating culture and living traditions. We also visit King’s Memorial Chorten where you can observe the prayers and ceremonies throughout the year. Thimpu has always remained synonymous to its ornate monasteries, living culture, colorful festival and coveted culture sites.

In Punakha, we visit Punakha Dzong, a 17th century fortress that serves as administrative hub of district and the winter residence of monk body. Colorful market in Punakha is worth exploring. Then, we visit Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten, a newly established stupa perched at the ridge to end of the valley. At the end of the day, we visit drive back to Paro to explore Drukgyel Dzong, the fort of victorious Drukpas. Although burned down by catastrophic fire, this Dzong is known as the stand from which several Tibetan invasions were repelled. You can explore sacred Mt. Chomolhari or the abode of “mountain of goddess” to the north of Dzong.

Day 05: Drive: Thimpu – Punakha (75km/2-3 hours)

Day 06: Drive: Punakha – Paro (125km/4-5 hours)
