Journey to Druk Yul

After breakfast, we set for guided city sightseeing tour. We explore the cultural, historical and spiritual landmarks of Kathmandu. We visit the ancient Durbar Square, Pashupatinath (revered Hindu sites), Swyambhunath (famous 2,000 years old monkey temple) and Boudhanath (largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal).

Interestingly, these all sites are protected under UNESCO heritage sites.
After the tour, we get the brief description of Durk Yul tour and make necessary preparation for the trip.

Early in the morning, flight from Kathmandu to Paro by Druk Air or Bhutan Airways and meet Alpine Kailash’s representatives at airport terminal hall and escort to Thimpu.

While flight to Paro, we have great opportunity to explore Mount Kailash, Kanchenjunga and other Himalayan peaks including Mt. Jhomolhari and Jichu Drake in Bhutan. Our airport representative will drive you to Thimpu, the capital of Bhutan.

After breakfast, we proceed for full day sightseeing of Thimpu. Thimpu. Firstly, we visit National Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in 1974 in the memory of third king. Further, we drive above the Thimpu city to witness 51m tall Buddha, the largest stupa in the world gilded with gold.

We also explore Kingdom’s rich culture at National Library; the Bhutan’s thirteen traditional arts and crafts where student undergo training. Visiting Bhutan Museum also offers the insight of Bhutanese ancient arts and tradition.

It is worth exploring Changangkha Lhakhang built in 12th century. It is perched on a ridge above Thimpu. Visiting Takin Preserve allows you to explore Takin, the rare national animal of Bhutan. We also explore Tashichoe Dzong, the summer residence of the Je Khempo or Chief About.

After breakfast, we drive to Punakha, the ancient capital of Bhutan following the some of the dramatic river valleys and cultivated fields.

On the way to Punakha, we pass Dochu La Pass (3,050m) which exhibits the clear view of mountain range on a clear day. From Dochu La Pass, we drive down to the warmer valley of Punakha and Wangdue. En route to Punakha- we stop at Mitsina village; explore Chimi Lhakhang, the famous temple known for fertility blessings.

After breakfast, we drive to Paro via same route. On the way, we visit Simtokha Dzong, built in 1627 by Ngawang Namgyal (founding saint of Bhutan).

In afternoon, we drive to Ta Dzong to explore the National Museum of the country. Formerly built as watch tower, this museum is the great collection of covet art, artifacts, thangkha paintings and postage stamps. Next, we walk down to Rinpung Dzong, the administrative hub of the district and the abode of the monk body.

After breakfast, we drive to Durk Yul, the fort known for victorious Drukpas. Although burned down by catastrophic fire, this repelled the Tibetan invasion to the country. To the north, you can see the spectacular dome of sacred Mount. Chomolhari and other fascinating peaks.

Then, we drive to the foot of Taktsang hill and make a short hike to the Taktsang Monastery. Also known as Tiger’s Nest, it is believed that Guru Rinpoche flew on the back of a tigress to this holy place and meditated. This monastery is majestically perched at sheer 800m rock face. The round trip to the monastery lasts for 4-5 hours.
Further, we visit Kyochu Lhakhang, one most oldest and valued shrines in the country.
