Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek is an exotic journey in Nepal through verdant forests, quaint settlements, beautiful waterfalls, abundant wildlife in the backdrop of great Langtang range. Despite of easy accessibility from Kathmandu, it remains relatively un-explored and less developed trekking trail in Nepal. Few days of pleasant hike through forested route and traditional village leads you to alpine yak pasture land of Kyanjin Gompa, sacred Gosainkunda Lake and culturally flourished Helambu village while the Himalayan views are mesmerizing.
17 days Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trek initiates from Syabrubesi, a beautiful Tamang village nestled at the bank of Bhote Koshi River. It then passes through different Tamang villages, across varied landscapes, tight river valley, glacial valley and glaciated rivers to reach Kyangjin Gompa. Next, we climb Tserko Ri that serves the superb view of Langtang Lirung (7,200m/23,622ft) range. Further, we continue trekking through stunning Langtang valley and reach Gosainkunda (4,460m/14,632ft), the sacred lake for both Buddhism and Hinduism faiths. According to Hindu mythology, the revered lake of Gosainkunda was created by Lord Shiva’s Trident so that he could drink the water to quench the thirst felt after he drank the poison obtained from Churning of the Ocean (Samundra Manthan).
We walk across few more lakes and cross the Laurebina Pass. Now, the trek enters into the Helambu trail. From Ama Yangri (3,800m), Mt. Shishapangma and the Langtang ranges appear so close that we feel like we can touch it. We continue our trek in Helambu region and drop down Melamchi Pul Bazaar for few more day to conclude our trek with short drive to Kathmandu.
